fmtcol - Format lines of text as columns
fmtcol [-w <width>] [<file>...] fmtcol -h|--help|--version
This program reads lines from
STDIN or a file and formats them as columns on
STDOUT, much like
This differs from
fmt(1) that the columns are read top-bottom not left-right.
tar tzf my_tarball.tar.gz | tr '\n' ' ' | fmt
tar tzf my_tarball.tar.gz | fmtcol
Format the lines in the given file. If not given, or if
file is "-", will read from
Format the columns for the given width. Defaults to the width of the current terminal.
