perl_run.pl
This is a wrapper for the activation of the perl runner. It uses the Perl.pm module to achieve this.
Why should we have such a wrapper ? Well - there are many reasons. We better control settings of environment vars and the environment in general (we could better provide a "sterile" environment which is good for testing purposes and is good for achieving deterministic behaviour...). And there are many other reasons.
