Applied a patch from Sergey V. Beduev so that Timeout is set before creating the socket
Added a test for the patch above

Asynchronous mail sending with POE

To install POE::Component::Client::SMTP, copy and paste the appropriate command in to your terminal.

cpanm POE::Component::Client::SMTP

perl -MCPAN -e shell
install POE::Component::Client::SMTP
