Changes for version 1.97_01 - 2026-09-30

  • Support for OpenSSL 4.0.0. Contributed by Michal Josef Špaček.
    • Net::SSLeay specific functions CTX_tlsv1_new(), CTX_tlsv1_1_new() and CTX_tlsv1_2_new() with OpenSSL 4.0.0 and later are emulated using TLS_method() with SSL_CTX_set_min_proto_version() and SSL_CTX_set_max_proto_version() for backward compatibility. It is recommended to use Net::SSLeay::CTX_new() with Net::SSLeay::CTX_set_min_proto_version() and Net::SSLeay::CTX_set_max_proto_version() instead.
    • TLSv1_method, TLSv1_server_method and TLSv1_client_method, TLSv1_1_method, TLSv1_1_server_method and TLSv1_1_client_method, TLSv1_2_method, TLSv1_2_server_method and TLSv1_2_client_method are removed in OpenSSL 4.0.0. Use TLS_method() with CTX_set_min_proto_version() and CTX_set_max_proto_version() instead.
    • CTX_v3_new() is removed with OpenSSL 4.0.0 and later.
  • Fix a memory leak in Net::SSLeay::Handle when the handle is not explicitly closed. Thanks to NATARAJ (Nikolay Shaplov) for the patch.
  • Correct the example code in the Net::SSLeay::Handle documentation so that the remote HTTP server actually responds to the request. Thanks to NATARAJ (Nikolay Shaplov) for the patch.
  • Fix a memory leak in 11_read.t, caused by an SSL_CTX's allocated memory not being freed before it is garbage-collected. Thanks to NATARAJ (Nikolay Shaplov) for the patch.
  • Fix memory leaks in 32_x509_get_cert_info.t, caused by memory allocated to two EVP_PKEYs, an X509 and a BIO not being freed before they are garbage-collected. Thanks to NATARAJ (Nikolay Shaplov) for the patch.
  • Fix memory leaks in 33_x509_create_cert.t, caused by memory allocated to eight BIGNUMs not being freed before they are garbage-collected. Thanks to NATARAJ (Nikolay Shaplov) for the patch.
  • When building Net-SSLeay on Linux and similar platforms, only search $prefix/lib64 and $prefix/lib/64 for libssl and libcrypto when using a 64-bit Perl. Thanks to Graham Ollis for the patch.
