Changes for version 0.51 - 2026-10-21

  • Bug Fixes
    • geocode() no longer hangs when OpenAddresses is configured and a location that matches the built-in alternatives table isn't found, such as "Chirton, Tyne and Wear, England". The hang came in with 0.50
    • An alternative is not tried again while it is already being tried, so an entry whose replacement still matches it cannot recurse forever
    • The alternatives table is read as written: "Borough of North Tyneside" is no longer looked up as "Borough, of, North, Tyneside" first
    • Error is now a runtime prerequisite; Geo::Coder::Free::Utils, which every user loads, has always needed it
  • Enhancements
    • Config::Auto is no longer needed
    • The US states and counties lists that createdatabase.PL imports are now in the distribution; before, a build from CPAN silently skipped them
  • Documentation
    • LIMITATIONS no longer describes the alternatives loop missing a match on a repeated call; it walks a sorted list of keys and always finds it
  • Tests
    • t/transaction.t checks that an alternative which finds nothing returns, and that the same input finds the same alternative every time
